Many of the chapels described in the book are now converted for residential use or demolished. A revealing account of life at the airfield and flying incidents emerges from a collection of log books and personal experiences. Excellent range of beers, wines and ales available behind the bar. The sheer effort that has gone into researching this book is a testiment to the interest and enthusiasm placed on Cornish roots by people in the Slate Belt area. Don't miss it! There was a shoemaker and a hat shop; a sweet shop, run by a blind man, who could put his hand on any of his stock with hesitation unless his wife moved things!

I would recommend this place for a good pub meal, and we will defiantly return here again in the future. If that wasn't enough confusion for the onlooker, the village of St Breward was in its time also known as Simonward and there are all sorts of ponderings about how on earth that came about? Blisland Manor was in the hands of the family of Billing for many years: they were also landowners at St Breward and elsewhere. This is 11 miles of disused railway track bed beside the River Camel, converted to a cycle trail, linking the towns of BodminWadebridge and Padstow.

Cars didn't appear until the s and horse-drawn vehicles were the m of transport, or Shanks' pony. The effect is akin to watching one of those time-lapse sequences of flowers blooming, as hemlines rise and fall, corsets squash and squeeze, flounces come and go and colors grow florid and fade while listening to a learned commentary on the social, political and cultural significance of this seemingly arbitrary activity. The archway was brought from another site. A recent craft exhibition demonstrated just how much talent and creativeness there is in the village, which, though greatly changed, still thrives as a community. The pub had a charming classic country feel.
